Who Cares?

We do! And so do so many others!

Of course, we care, but we are far from alone in our care. Beyond the thousands of people School Striking for The Climate Emergence, the majority of Australians have made it clear that they want immediate action on Climate Change.
South Australia, Northern Territory, ACT, Tasmania, Queensland, Western Australia, and Victoria have all banned single use plastic bags. Unfortunately this does not yet include New South Wales.
Molly Steer has created a campaign called Straw No More. Amongst many other things she has managed to convince the Cairns council to ditch single use plastics and she has also managed to convince 90 schools in Australia and overseas to stop using single use plastic straws. 4Ocean is just one example of the numerous groups stopping plastic from getting into the ocean and removing plastic that is already there. They have removed more than three million kilograms of plastic from the ocean with help from tens of thousands of volunteers. Hundreds of communities and councils are working towards 100% renewable energy goals and zero emission targets. An organic waste trial in our home town of Anglesea has decreased organic materials going into landfill by almost 25%. This reduces the production of climate changing landfill gasses and increases the amount of useful compost. It also shows that when given the option, people are keen to do the right thing.
So, caring is the first step but it’s all a bit useless without doing. Every bit in the right direction counts so let’s keep up the caring and get on with the doing!
