Greta Thunberg is an 18-year-old climate change activist from Stockholm, Sweden who has Asperger's syndrome. Greta started her inspiring work when she was only the age of 15! Since then she has gone world-wide, writing many books, giving exhilarating speeches, and most of all has created the world-known “School Strike for Climate” campaign. As SS4C Australia (School Strike 4 Climate Australia) explains “we are striking from school to tell our politicians to take our futures seriously and treat climate change for what it is: a crisis. They can show us that they care by taking urgent action to move Australia beyond fossil fuel projects, such as the Adani mega coal mine, and get the job done of moving to 100% renewable energy for all.” I think this is so true, I mean Australia by its self uses around 129,642,679 Tons a year of Coal!!! Imagine the difference it would make if our politicians changed to a more sustainable way of producing energy. For example, Solar power. Using Solar power decreases your power bill by around $400 per year!, And because the sun is a renewable energy source (we can’t run out of it) solar panels (that are powered by the sun) are perfect to use! SS4C Australia is only one of the many Climate strike activists that have started because of Greta.
In Greta’s speeches, she speaks from the heart, you can feel her words, her pain of not what climate change is doing but what we have done. How we have known Climate change for 30 years but have done nothing about it, how all we care about is money and its growth in the future when there won’t be one if we are bystanders in this situation. What we need is everyone to participate in saving our beautiful Earth, we are on our way there. According to the Guardian, there are around more than 100 countries participating in School Strike for Climate!
Greta was only the age of 8 when she was told about Climate change, she wondered why not much was being done to solve it. Now we look at her and think about how such a little bit of information can change a life. She has inspired many to follow in her footsteps, fighting for our planet. Every Friday she would skip school and would protest. This is what inspired us, SCEAT to do what we do. We shouldn’t have to fight for our home, nature, animals and our future generations, but we have to. To watch some of Greta’s speeches, here are some that really inspired me: 1.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAJsdgTPJpU 2.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwptXauY2is 3.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVeYOPJZ8oc
