Toothbrushes

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

Think back to when you got your first tooth brush, which was around about when you were 1 to 2 years old. Now think about how old you are and how many you have had. You might be thinking why am I asking this, well I’m asking this because EVERY SINGLE tooth brush that you have ever had and thrown away still exists today. Tooth brushes take around 400 years to decompose, yet every year 1 BILLION toothbrushes are getting thrown away! That means that in my life time, around 12 BILLION tooth brushes have been thrown away. Most tooth brushes after they have been discarded end up in landfill and eventually find themselves in the ocean which is the number one thing we don’t want to happen. Enough of the bad news, there is a way we can help PREVENT using plastic tooth brushes! You can go and buy bamboo or wooden tooth brushes that are compostable that will only take round about 4 to 6 months to break down, but you still need to remove the bristles then you are free to chuck the rest in the compost.
